Welcome to Our Site! Welcome to Carnegie Middle School!
Home of the Highlanders. We are part of the Los Angeles United School District, Local District K. Located in the beautiful city of Carson, California, we house a student population of approximately 1600. We are not an over-crowded school, therefore we are on the traditional , as opposed to a year-round calendar.
We are proud of our culturally diverse population (48% Hispanic, 33% Filipino, 10% African American, 6% White and 3% Pacific Islanders and Asians). Our students are taught to respect each other, and to celebrate their similarities and differences. Our motto, "We have Carnegie Pride: We are Carnegie Highlanders" can be seen in everything we do.
Our faculty and staff are dedicated to student achievement, and our goal is to be a California Distinguised School. Mastery in language arts and mathematics is our instructional focus; however we strive for and expect excellence from our students in all areas. We believe that we are to develop each student's abilities to the highest potential, and therefore deliver a rigorous and challenging instructional program. Our test scores on the Stanford 9 range from the high thirties to the mid forties in reading and math, and our scores have continued to rise over the past three years.
We boast about our learning environment which is clean and cheerful. Our school has recently been painted, and the color makes the students think of peach ice cream. No institutional atmosphere here!
We welcome visitors, so feel free to let us show you our school and our outstanding educational program. (Please don't call between 8:50-9:20 a.m. This is our Sustained Silent Reading time when everyone on our campus reads. If you visit us during this time, you too, will be asked to read! Phone us at (310) 830-1330. Thanks for the visit. |
