The Claremont campus is a beautiful campus, easily accessible from the Interstate 10 Freeway and located near the base of the mountains in Claremont.
BRIEF HISTORY
In 1920, the Brethren in Christ Church of Southern California opened a private secondary school, Beulah Academy. By 1935, growth necessitated a move to new facilities. In 1963, the school was reorganized as a non-denominational, not-for-profit organization with the name of Western Christian School, and it located to Pomona. In 1970, the school moved to the Hillside Campus in Glendora, owned by Azusa Pacific College. The school moved to Covina in 1980. In 1982, a series of providential events made possible the purchase of our school campus north of Claremont which is our pre K through 8th grade school, thereby changing the corporate school name to Western Christian Schools.
ACCREDITATION
Western Christian High School has received a six year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), one of six nationally recognized accrediting associations across the nation. This organization is responsible for accreditation of universities, colleges, and secondary schools in many western states. Western Christian Schools are also a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
Western Christian's Elementary consists of Kindergarten through 5th grade. There are two classes per grade. The class size of each grade varies from about 22-24 students per class. Each grade also has one or more teacher's aides that are in the classroom 5 days a week.
Western Christian Preschool is licensed by the Sate of California, Lic#198004459 and is financed through tuition. The program is non-discriminatory and is open to all families without regard to sex, race and ethnicity. We serve children from 2-5 years old and do not require that they be potty trained. The adult to child ratio is 1:8 in our preschool classes. In each classroom there is one teacher and one assistant. We have an "open door" policy in which the parent or guardian is welcomed to come and visit his/her child at any time.
The preschool operates year round, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 A.M. -5:30 P.M.
Chapel - Once a week we do chapel for a time of worship and teaching from the Word of God. During this time children are learning reverence for God, and the value of scheduling special time aside to develop one's relationship for God. They learn the wonderful truths of the Bible through prayer, music, teaching, drama, and special guest speakers.
Curriculum - We use Zoo-Phonics and Christian-based preschool curriculum for each classroom. The teachers also integrate other various learning materials to accent their teaching and to allow creativity in lesson planning. The curriculum is developmentally appropriate, assisting the child's growth in all developmental areas: language, cognitive, social, emotional and physical. The curriculum is also based on monthly themes and is integrated into weekly lesson plans with chapel, bible stories, and memory verses for spiritual growth. The scope and sequence of our preschool is such that each child who is graduated from our preschool program is prepared to successfully enter our Kindergarten and into our Western Christian Schools Elementary Program. Our curriculum will provide and promote experiences that meet the needs of the individual child. |
